Baroque violinist Cynthia Roberts has served as concertmaster of the New York Collegium, Apollo's Fire, Concert Royal, and the Dallas Bach Society, and performed as soloist and recitalist throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. At the invitation of William Christie, she recently appeared as concertmaster of Les Arts Florissants for performances in Europe and the United States. She has performed with Tafelmusik, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, London Classical Players, Mostly Mozart Orchestra of Original Instruments, Aston Magna, Taverner Players, and the Handel & Haydn Society. Ms. Roberts performed the complete Bach Sonatas for Violin & Harpsichord with James Richman at the Mostly Mozart Festival, and recently recorded Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Monteverdi's "Orfeo" and solo works by Biber and Vivaldi with Apollo's Fire, and appeared on NPR’s Performance She also performed chamber music at The Prague Spring Festival and was featured as recorded soloist for Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" with the New York Baroque Dance Company at Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors. Ms. Roberts serves on the faculties of the University of North Texas and the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, and is Kulas Visiting Artist at Case Western University. She has made more than 50 recordings for Sony Classical, Analekta, BMG/Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, and Eclectra, performed numerous broadcasts for NPR, CBC and WDR, and produced television specials about the violin for WCVB Boston. She recently appeared with soprano Renee Fleming on "Late Night with David Letterman," and can be heard as soloist on the soundtrack of "Casanova," the film by Lasse Hallstrõm released by Buena Vista in December, 2005. A native of Chicago, Ms Roberts debuted there at age 12, performing the Mendelssohn Concerto with the Grant Park Symphony, and three years later appeared as soloist with the Boston Pops. She studied at the New England Conservatory with Joseph Silverstein, and at Indiana University with Josef Gingold, and specialized on baroque violin with Stanley Ritchie and Sigiswald Kuijken. |
