"La Clemenza di Tito" by Mozart -- a Prism Opera collaboration
Friday, September 17, 8:00 pm
Sunday, September 19, 3:00 pm
Ellsworth Theatre at Pine Manor College, (Chestnut Hill, MA) [campus map]
Tickets and information: 1-888-236-8181, www.prismopera.org
Prism Opera (http://www.prismopera.org) in collaboration with Sarasa presents opera on a chamber scale. In previous seasons, Prism Opera has performed operas of Britten, Vaughan Williams, and Holst under the direction of conductor/stage director Thomas Stumpf, who is a pianist and vocal coach (formerly at Boston University).
In this production of Mozart's "La Clemenza di Tito" the cast will include Pamela Dellal, Paul Guttry, Susan Trout, Krista River, and Arthur Rishi. It will be a rather "unusual" production in that it will be translated into English (in a new translation by Thomas Stumpf) and the recitatives will be replaced by spoken dialogue as in the Magic Flute. The setting will be changed from Rome to something else--the concept is still being worked on.
The music in this collaboration will be played by single strings and winds, by well-known Sarasa musicians include: Richard Earle, oboe; Alison Bury and Kinloch Earle, violins; Jennifer Stirling, viola; Timothy Merton, cello; Anne Trout, double bass. Clarinet and basset clarinet will be played by Diane Heffner and fortepiano, Thomas Stumpf.
The musical transcription is one that was made for the Welsh National Touring Opera.
